Coldplay
Genre: Rock & Alternative
Coldplay is an English rock band that was formed in London in 1996. Vocalist and pianist Chris Martin, guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman, and drummer Will Champion all met at University College London and began playing in a band in 1996. They have since released 8 studio albums, all of which include chart-topping hits that are perfect for festivals! They rose to fame with their song ‘Yellow’ that was released from their first album, ‘Parachutes’ in 2000. Their debut album ‘A Rush of Blood to the Head’ sold over 20 million albums. Coldplay are known for their creative music videos, and in their ‘Adventure of a Lifetime’ music video you can see dancing monkeys moving to the beat of their song. They have received nine Brits, six MTV Video Music Awards, and seven Grammy Awards. 2020 marks 20 years of Coldplay, so it’s a perfect year to celebrate their success by playing the last headline act at M in the Park!
Taylor Swift
Genre: Country & Pop
Taylor Swift is an American country and pop singer-songwriter that is best known for her story telling song writing ability. She released her first Country album in 2006, when she was just 16 years old! Now at age 30, Swift has released 8 studio albums and is one of the best female artists of the 21st century, and in 2019 she was crowned the American ‘artist of the decade’ of the 2010’s. In 2014 her music genre changed from country to pop when she released her debut album ‘1989’, an 80’s pop inspired album which included hits such as ‘Shake It Off’, ‘Wildest Dreams’, and ‘Blank Space’. Her most recent album, ‘Folklore’ which was only released in July 2020, has broken many records such as the first female artist to have seven albums debut at number one and the highest ever album streams on Spotify (80.6m) from a female artist in 24hrs, it has also seen her try out indie music and instead of dancing pop tunes her new album is stripped back and heartfelt. Swift will get you dancing, swaying, and singing to her emotional and detailed lyrics, and she is the perfect phone-lighter act for a festival.
Oasis
Genre: Rock, Pop & Alternative
Oasis is an English rock band that was formed in Manchester in 1991. The duo consists of both Manchester-born brothers, Liam and Noel Gallagher. Their 1995 debut album '(What's The Story) Morning Glory?' became one of the best-selling albums of all time. The Gallagher brothers were often featured in tabloid newspapers for their sibling disputes and rivalries, and after releasing seven studio albums together, the pair parted ways in August 2009. They have sold over 75 million records worldwide, and they have had eight UK number one singles. Both Liam and Noel have released albums on their own, and have had independent hits such as 'Wall of Glass' from Liam and 'Holy Mountain' from Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds. Oasis are the perfect rock band for a festival, not only are they British, but their pure pop that's mixed with brutal guitar, drums and cello sounds is bound to give a great kickstart to the headline acts.
